Today was not a very good day for me because this morning at around 6:00 am to 7:00 am my internet connection went down. I reported the problem to my internet and phone service provider (DIGITEL) through their Customer Service Hotline. I found out, through the Customer Service Representative that answered my call, that DIGITEL’s network went down and that their technicians were already working on the problem.
At around 10:00 am, I asked my wife to call DIGITEL’s Customer Service Hotline and inquire about the status of my internet connection problem. She learned that the problem with the network was already fixed and that everything was up and running once again but, unfortunately for me, that was not the case. My internet connection’s quality was still very poor. I believe that I had tried everything that I can do at my end like restarting my PC many times and resetting my modem many times as well. I even turned off both my PC and modem for at least 30 minutes but still my internet connection’s quality didn’t improve.
There was internet connectivity, no doubt about it, but the quality was so poor that no website would load. The only thing I could do was receive e-mails through Thunderbird but I couldn’t send anything out because I would always get a timeout error. I also used a DOS external command called PING to continously ping a website (I pinged Yahoo.com the most) to see how bad or how good my internet connection was and the result was not very promising. I was getting a lot of “Request timed out” and about 30% of all packets sent were lost.
What I did next was I called DIGITEL’s Customer Service Hotline every hour or couple of hours to follow-up on the status of my internet connection but all they could tell me was that their technicians were still working on my internet connection problem.
It took them almost 48 hours to resolve whatever issue their network encountered. For me, it was a real test of patience but I was able to keep my cool. I must admit, there were moments where I felt like shouting at the person on the other line for their inability to resolve their network problem quickly. 48 hours without good internet connection is a very long time.
Anyway, my internet connection is back and I’m a happy internet camper once again. LOL!
