I remembered watching a Dragon Ball live action movie some years back and when I heard about a new Dragon Ball movie my first thoughts were, “will it be another Asian (I’m not sure if it was Hongkong or Japan) made comic fest?”. The first live action Dragon Ball movie was based from the original Dragon Ball anime (not Dragon Ball Z). It featured a young Goku (called “monkey boy” in the dub) and his search for the seven Dragon Balls (Dragon Pearls in the dub).
You can say that I was tricked to watching this movie when it was shown at a local theater because I was a huge Dragon Ball Z fan back then and I was, you know, expecting Dragon Ball Z like fighting and story. I was a bit disappointed because the movie was nothing like it but the movie was really close to Dragon Ball’s original story only with a lot of stupidity thrown in. LOL!
Anyway, the new Dragon Ball movie is again based from the original Dragon Ball anime (of Akira Toriyama) so don’t expect to see any Super Saiyans in this one either and I’m happy to say that it will not be a Hongkong or Japan made film either (I’m not saying that’s a bad thing). 20th Century Fox acquired the feature film rights to the Dragon Ball franchise and the movie is now in post production.
Dragon Ball is scheduled to be released on April 9, 2009. For more information about the file visit IMDb’s profile of the film. Bad or good, I’ll definitely watch this movie!
