The superhero movie, Ironman, opened in theaters all over the country this week. I’ve been waiting for this movie since the first day I learned about it but, unfortunately, I won’t be able to see it. Let me clear that, I will be able to watch it when it comes out on video (DVD) but what I meant was, I won’t be able to watch it in a theater where movies like these are supposed to be watched.
The reason I won’t be able to watch it is because my kids don’t want to watch Ironman with me. I asked them why and they told me that they don’t know who Ironman is. Arrrghhh! I forgot, the name Ironman is kinda alien to them because he is not really that popular unlike Spider-Man or Superman
.

Now, this is a bummer because I have never gone out without my family with me. My wife offered to come with me but it’s not the same if the kids are not there. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have lots of fun specially after watching the movie but I guess Ironman just don’t interest them.
They know Superman because they watch the animated series at Cartoon Network, the same goes with Batman and the X-Men
with X-Men Evolution. Heck, they even know the Teen Titans
and the Fantastic Four
because of Cartoon Network but they don’t know who Ironman is. I guess the cool trailers and posters didn’t interest them that much.
So here is a tip for future superhero movies, make a cartoon series first and air it at widely distributed channels (public or cable) like Cartoon Network so that kids who are not into comic books would know about them. Mr. Bean is more popular to them than Ironman because the animated and live series is shown at Disney Channel.
I guess I’ll just have to wait and rent it on video when it comes out.
Anyway, they did promise that they’ll watch Batman: The Dark Knight with me when it is released this July but I don’t think I’ll be able to get them to watch The Incredible Hulk though.

I’m surprised that your kids wouldn’t even consider Iron Man. Hey, aren’t kids just crazy about anything that flies with explosions all around? I thought that’s a sure proof fomula!
I seem to remember that there’s an Iron Man cartoon series somewhere… perhaps I’m mistaken.
When I was a kid, I had very little interest in Marvel heros. I was more into transformers, voltron, and tranzor z.
Then again, I’m not normal…heh.
